Old Girtonian Gets a Gong

Rhiannon Judd is the perfect advertisement for Girton’s co-curricular program. This is because Rhiannon believes her path to confidence was paved in 2005 by her Year 7 volleyball coach, Mrs Cate Brewin.

Mrs Brewin was also Rhiannon’s teacher and assistant Head of House, but it was on the volleyball court, in particular, that Rhiannon developed her leadership skills and her self-belief.

Mrs Brewin is still teaching at Girton and is now Head of Aherne House. She is still lending an ear to her students and giving advice and feedback when it is most needed. Rhiannon goes so far as to say that Mrs Brewin has had a big impact on the person that she is today. They are still in touch, nowadays, as friends.

As a recent recipient of the Third Year Pharmacy Legislation Award at La Trobe University in Bendigo, Rhiannon is working towards becoming a pharmacist.

Combining her interest in the body and health with her natural enjoyment of interacting with people, pharmacy seemed the ideal career path. An idea now endorsed by achieving the highest average mark in Pharmacy Law for Third year students.

When she is not studying, which as a Fourth Year Pharmacy student, is not too often, Rhiannon works at the Bendigo UFS pharmacies and is involved in the Bendigo Association of Pharmacy Students.

Rhiannon still plays volleyball, often alongside fellow Old Girtonians’ and is no doubt reminded of her school days and the fun and friendships that she enjoyed.
