For the 2013 OGA Scholarship two candidates could not be split.

Angus McCormack (2013 – School Captain) and Daniel Atkinson (2013 Milward) were each awarded a $2,000 prize.

In receiving the scholarship, Angus said that he is grateful to Girton for the focus on the quality of its students and the citizens they become rather than solely on their academic success.

Angus has followed his passion in fashion design and is forging a career that is not a stereotypical choice for an average teenage Australian male. He attributes the confidence and belief that he has in himself partly to Girton and in being encouraged to strive for excellence.

Angus will commence RMIT’s Fashion Design undergraduate degree in 2015 following some international travel this year, supported by the OGA Scholarship funds. He is hoping to seek personal and professional inspiration and motivation from other perspectives during his travels.

Daniel has wanted to be a physiotherapist since he was young and was this year offered a place studying physio in Bendigo at LaTrobe University. He attributes being offered the placement at LaTrobe partly to “Girton’s incredible teachers”.

He has deferred the position until next year and will take time out in 2014 to travel, work and see where his nose leads him.

The OGA Scholarship will be used to supplement flights for travel and to help purchase a laptop for study at University next year.
